Rebecca and Lucy Rudden were born on 5th Januray 2006 and were 12 weeks premature. They are
identical twins and suffered a syndrome called twin to twin transfusion syndrome. It only happens
identical twins as they share a placenta. Sometimes abnormal veins form and carry blood from one
twin to the other and back, so the two babies are on the one blood supply connected to the placenta
through their umbilical cords. In 70% of these cases the "transfusion" of blood from one
to the other leaves the "donor twin" with not enough and also puts the heart of the other
baby under serious pressure. In our case the blood came from Lucy to Rebecca.

Little Lucy went to sleep inside me some day between Christmas Eve '05 and the day they were
born. Rebecca tried to hold on but I went into labour on the 5 January and so they were born by
emergency caesarean section. Rebecca was too young and her heart was so over-worked already so she
lived about 10 minutes, fighting all the way. They were born about 10 minutes apart.

Our hearts broke that day and our lives will never be the same. I think we are out of the darkest
time but some days are still very hard. A loss like that leaves a shadow over your whole life, I
think you just adjust your eyes to living with that shadow when you get too tired of running away
from it. And then life slowly gives you back rays of light again, the important thing is to enjoy
the good days as they come.

They have a big brother James who was a year and 8 months when it happened. He's 3 now and he
understands it better than we do I think and often talks to them. We have apple trees planted one in
each corner at the bottom of our garden in memory of our girls and there is an angel at the foot of
each tree. He often potters down and chats away to them.

Sadly we lost another baby in March of this year at 11 weeks pregnant. When we explained that the
baby would no longer be coming he asked where was it gone so I explained gone away. He then told us
that he was gone to play with Rebecca and Lucy!

We are now pregnant again and all is going well 14 weeeks tomorrow! Thank you for visiting this site
it's a beautiful way to remember them from all over the world and a great way for all those who
love them to express how they feel. Please feel welcome to leave any messages or photos day or
night, it's lovely to think they're being remembered in such a loving way.

Sleep tight girls,
All our love,
Mammy Daddy and James xxx

Whisper of an Angel

The whisper of an angel
Can open Heaven's gate,
A glimpse of faith and courage
A love strong enough to wait,

Whisper you are safe
Whisper softly, angel love,
My heart is aching so
Needing comfort from above,

Tell me you are with me
Whisper gently in my ear,
'You will always be my mommy'
In the quiet I will hear,

My heart still aches to hold you
I close my eyes and see,
Your face now, one year later
And who you were to be,

Though dreams I once held close
In the distance now, so far
Still you're more than just my child
You're the twinkle in the stars,

So I'll hear your angel whispers
'You never need let go,
Hold me, mommy, close within'
Though the pain and sorrow flow,
One day we shall reunite
Angels whisper words of grace,
And I promise I will hold you
In another time and place.

Little angels lent not given, to bud on Earth and bloom in Heaven.

Precious, tiny, sweet little ones
You will always be to me
So perfect, pure, and innocent
Just as you were meant to be.

We dreamed of you and your lives
And all that you would be
We waited and longed for you to come
And join our family.

We never had the chance to play,
To laugh, to rock, to wiggle.
We long to hold you, touch you now
And listen to you giggle.

I'll always be your mother.
He'll always be your dad.
You'll always be our children
The children we never had.

But now you're gone...but yet you're here.
We'll sense you everywhere.
You are our sorrow and our joy.
There's love in every tear.

Just know our love goes deep and strong.
We'll forget you never-
The girls we had, but never had,
And yet will have forever.

Love,
Mammy xx
